Summary
Esme Smith and Jed Reeve are getting married. The unlikely
pairing of an Australian suffragette and an American inventor
is set to be the wedding of the year—until the Gypsy
Oracle arrives in town, a man is killed, Jed is hopelessly
compromised and Esme has to save her man and
survive…Grandma! I love writing my Bustlepunk Chronicles. Setting them in
Western Australia in the 1890s not only gave me a chance to
use my history degree -- see, it was useful, 20 years later
;) -- it also revealed a freaky family coincidence.I learned
that in 1895, the year of Esme and Jed's adventures in the
Chronicles, my great-grandfather was one of the thousands of
men and women who poured into Western Australia chasing the
dream of gold and unbelievable wealth.Sadly, neither the
wealth nor the gold (not even a sprinkle of gold dust)
materialised, but Great-Granddad did spend decades working on
the railways that opened up the state. He also built his
family's home near one, and I spent my childhood visiting,
walking through the orchard and avoiding splashing in the
creek -- the rumour was leeches! So there's a family
connection, in a strange way, to the fictional steampunk
world I've created. I hope you enjoy it.From the Author
